Today a number of our Year 10s, and those Year 11s who have joined us recently from outside of the city, attended a careers fair at a local secondary school. It's important student have the chance to see what is available for them, so they can choose something they enjoy meaning they will be successful going forwards and in contributing to their communities. The fair gave them the opportunity to see the further education options for them from local colleges and available courses, to apprenticeships and the Armed Forces. Though it seems a long time away, year 10 students will be [...]

SPACE (formerly known as Bumps) was acquired by Aspire just before Christmas. Lots of hard work has gone into both the SPACE centre and preparing the karts and tracks. Last week, students studying MVE test drove some of the karts, looking for any safety hazards and risks needing attention. Leading up to this, students have prepared and improved both tracks and karts. This is an ongoing process and forms part of their IMI qualification pathway, as well as providing a weekly reward for those who attend all week and perform well. Finally the track is ready for business! Key Stage 4 [...]
Congratulations to Year 11 students! The maths results, from January entries, came in this week and have really demonstrated the commitment of year 11 this year! 92% of students improved on their previous maths result by one grade or more! And 100% of year 11 students, who had not previously sat a maths exam, now have a grade! A phenomenal achievement! Year 10 also did very well, congratulations to those who were successful. Further to this, students have been busy in their preparation for the ECDL exams. We had great success with the first cohort who sat these exams, and this has [...]
Year 10 and 11 girls attending a day's workshop at local salon, Hair Majesty, as part of their City and Guilds in Hair qualification. For the workshop they researched hair styles and fashion from different eras before trying out different styles themselves. The girls learned how to create the styles themselves. As you can see from the photos, which are fantastic, the girls had a great day and learned a lot! Thanks to Hair Majesty for providing them with this experience.
A reminder to our KS4 students, parents and carers that Aspire will be open to year 11 students for catch up Leisure and Tourism Controlled Assessment sessions, ECDL practice and also to year 10 and 11 for Maths revision. You should receive a letter in the post in the next couple of days. If not please contact your child's tutor for details.
The Loft, year 9 enrichment programme, rewarded it's newest group for their great start on the programme, with a trip to local salon Hair Majesty. Not only has this new group started on the programme but have also joined hair and Beauty for their technology option. The session acted as a reward, a bonding session and a precursor to the City and Guilds course they will start in a few months. Great time had by all!
Parent Review Day was another fantastic success with an 84% turn out! As parents and carers are informed every day of their child's performance, including behaviour, the PRD is solely about the skills and content learned and what they need to do to move on. It's a great opportunity to focus on the academic success our students have had with our whole school community. Once again, thank you to parents and carers for your continued support. It means a great deal to both to our staff and to your children. Due to the shortness of the term, our next PRD will [...]
Year 8 and 9 have been getting festive in Food Technology this week, creating some fabulous Yule logs with Mr Pinder. Keeping them intact and carefully wrapped until they reached home was a big challenge though... We all think they look FAB! Well done 8A and 9B x
We have continued our support and community contributions to Humbercare this half term by launching Aspire's Shoebox for the Homeless Appeal. Mrs Wilson and Mrs Ledger's group 8A have worked hard on promoting and encouraging the whole school to come together to create shoebox gifts for Hull's homeless. Students and staff were asked to contribute what they could from a list including: Warm clothes, hats, gloves, scarves, non-perishable foods, chocolate, sweets, personal hygiene products. Each tutor group was set a target of 2 boxes with many smashing their target! 40 wrapped shoeboxes, along with a collection of nearly new warm clothing, [...]
